Venous duplex ultrasound, legs
An ultrasound (US) or sonography uses high-frequency ultrasonic waves to look inside the body. Venous duplex ultrasound is performed in the office by the placement of a probe over the leg veins of interest. Your doctor will be able to view and interpret the images while the test is being performed. A venous duplex ultrasound of the leg is often indicated to diagnose conditions that lead to altered blood flow, such as thrombosis within the leg veins. The most common condition evaluated with venous leg ultrasound is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
